England World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst scored one of the best-known hat-tricks in football history - but it could have been for the other side. Now the 76-year-old legend is bracing himself for shock news that he may actually be German. The 1966 final hero - who netted the treble in a 4-2 win over West Germany - is set to undergo an AncestryDNA test after revealing a German connection on his mother’s side. He said: “Many years ago I heard of this story from my grandparents on my mother’s side that there was some connection with a German name, a German family called Blick. Sky Bet’s Sandro Di Michele said: “The World Cup is a journey of discovery – new teams, new players and new styles are a big reason why we love the tournament so much. “While we don’t yet know what exciting discoveries await us at Russia 2018 it would be the biggest shock of all for English football if Sir Geoff is revealed to be German - and would certainly explain his cool-eye for a goal under pressure during his illustrious career.” Pick up your FREE Glossy 2018 World Cup wallchart inside your Sunday Mirror this weekend
